Jean Bousquet, Chief Editor
Jean Bousquet is Professor Emeritus at the University of Montpellier, France. A former President of the Societé Française d’Allergologie et d’Immunologie Clinique, for 13 years Professor Bousquet was Director of the INSERM Laboratory for the Immunopathology of Asthma. In addition to teaching in Allergy and Pulmonary Medicine at Montpellier University, Dr. Bousquet was Chairman of the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) and the WHO Global Alliance Against Chronic Respiratory Diseases (GARD), Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Asthma and Rhinitis in Montpellier, founding Chair of Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma (ARIA), and coordinator of several research projects for the European Union. After initially focusing on Mediterranean allergens and allergen-specific immunotherapy, Professor Bousquet became interested in asthma research; especially demonstrating the role of inflammation in disease severity, and developing his airways remodeling concept. He currently focuses on severe asthma, studying the relationship between asthma and rhinitis as co-morbidities, and redefining our understanding of allergy. He works with the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Aging on how chronic diseases like allergic rhinitis can be managed with an integrated care pathway. A former editor of The European Respiratory Review and Allergy, Professor Bousquet has authored and edited 10 books and over 900 peer-reviewed papers. He has served on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Clinical Experimental Allergy, Allergy Clinical Immunology International, Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, International Archives of Allergy and Applied Immunology, and International Allergology.
